Vacancy: Band 4 Associate Practitioner - Histopathology Department, Royal Derby Hospital

The department provides a full Diagnostic Service to Clinicians and GPs, handling approximately 50,000 tissue samples annually.

We seek an enthusiastic, committed individual with a keen interest in medical science. Paid Pathology Laboratory experience is essential, preferably within Histology.

Must be adaptable, able to work within a team, and cope with the pressures of a busy, evolving environment. Experience in staff training, development, and resolving client queries is highly desirable.

The department is innovative and expanding, with working hours from 0730-1930, Monday to Friday, including Saturday rotations.

Key Duties:

1. Sample handling and preparation
2. Data entry and IT duties, including use of the quality management system
3. Participation in audits
4. Tissue embedding, microtomy, and special stain techniques
5. Stock control
6. Supervision and development of Medical Laboratory Assistant staff

Full training will be provided, with competency achieved through in-house training and formal assessment. Candidates should have a foundation degree or equivalent and good IT skills.

Flexibility in start and finish times is required, as the role involves participating in a rota covering part of the working hours.
