Job description

About You

We are looking for someone who is a personable self-starter with the ability to project a positive ‘can do’ professional attitude at all times while maintaining good working relationships. Primary Objectives

Assist the Group Leader with delivery of projects, with effective use of assisting engineers, maintaining technical quality, professionalism, and completing all design activities to programme. Carry out detailed design and calculations in accordance with industry guides. Oversee project site works snagging and testing. Become an integral part of the design team, taking responsibility and ownership for elements of design production. Support the team’s common goal. Assist the Group Leader with coaching and staff training of engineers in the group.

Responsibilities

In the role of Associate Electrical Engineer we'll count on you to:

  • Carry out engineering concept design to detailed design, ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with design briefs and that completion deadlines are achieved, via frequent design reviews with engineers.
  • Manage project/package delivery, establish client brief, technical requirements, scope of works, cost plan and agree deliverables, i.e., reports, specifications, and drawings scope for all projects within the group.
  • Ensure all design projects and reports within the group are technically compliant, to a consistent quality and standard. Maintain regular ‘in-house’ design reviews and checks.
  • Maintain excellent client relationships and contacts to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business. Manage client’s expectations and promote a team approach.
  • Assist with the development of new business opportunities where appropriate and participate with company presentations.
  • Motivate yourself and manage staff within the group to build coherent high-performing teams. Set objectives, monitor performance, coach and develop staff to optimize their potential.
  • Monitor and control project progress, design variations, and project financial budgets where appropriate to assist Project Lead on larger projects.
  • Implement and manage QA systems and procedures on all projects.
  • Implement Company Health and Safety. Ensure all designs respond to the CDM regulations.
  • Ensure Quality Management System ISO 9001 and 14001 are adhered to.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BEng, MSc or Equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Building Services.
  • Consultancy experience in designing and managing projects, minimum 10 years’ industry experience.
  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge of Investment Banks, Financial Institutions, Trading Environments, and Office Cat B and bespoke fit-out of workplace spaces including the application of Electrical Engineering Services within these institutions and environments.
  • Demonstrate experience and application of mission critical, firefighting and life safety systems power engineering and multiple levels of resilience including earthing, HV and LV protection systems.
  • Demonstrate experience and application of secondary and tertiary standby systems including UPS and standby generation.
  • Demonstrate experience and application of Electrical Engineering disciplines including but not limited to Building Distribution Systems comprising Switchgear, Cabling and Containment; Lighting and Lighting Control; Small Power with emphasis on resilience to mission critical applications; Fire Protective Services; Security Systems; and Lightning Protection Systems.
  • Demonstrate experience of liaising and negotiation with, and working alongside General and Subcontractors, and Specialist Contractors / Installers.
  • Managing Electrical Design throughout all design stages.
  • Experienced user of industry standard design software (e.g., Amtech, Dialux, Revit, Bluebeam, etc.).
  • Design to REVIT and AutoCAD and ability to work closely with Drafters and Modellers is necessary.
  • Able to undertake computer modelling organization and direct the production of CAD (Navisworks, Revit) drawings and correspond effectively with opposite numbers with other consultants.
  • Carry out clash detection, and clash detection resolution on Navisworks or similar.
  • Competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint.
  • Good knowledge and use of appropriate project and design analysis software.
  • Chartered engineer desirable or as a minimum, demonstrate working towards CEng status.
  • Experience of monitoring contract staff or third-party appointments.
  • Understanding in project managing ongoing jobs with limited supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Extensive knowledge of building electrical power, lighting and signal design, including life safety systems and building management systems.
  • Strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, and electrical design software.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture is a must.
