Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in the UK is seeking an ecologist to work within our award-winning ecology team on habitat creation, research and major infrastructure projects. The role blends independent work with teamwork and client interactions, offering opportunities to lead projects and develop your career.

You will apply UK wildlife legislation, conduct UKHab surveys, EIAs and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, and mentor colleagues while driving delivery and bid-winning in the region.

Qualifications

• A passion for ecology.
• Exemplary knowledge of the natural environment and wildlife legislation.
• Chartered through CIEEM CEcol or CEnv or actively working towards this.
• Experience on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP) and familiarity with the DCO process.
• Ability to undertake UKHab surveys, Preliminary Ecological Assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
• Strong botanical skills, including FISC level 3+ or demonstrable equivalent.
• Strong project management experience including technical, financial and quality assurance aspects.
• Experience in protected species survey, mitigation and licensing.
• Understanding of work-winning through bidding and maintaining client relationships.
• Full UK/EEC driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Working individually but also collaboratively in a team environment.
• Client facing interactions – understand client requirements and develop relationships to fulfil them.
• Lead on large projects or frameworks, inputting or overseeing programmes and budgets.
• Collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams and engage with stakeholders/clients.
• Engage across the business to cross-sell capabilities, prepare bids and drive opportunities.
• Undertake technical check and review of ecological reports and licences.
• Undertake ecological assessments and habitat design for development projects.
• Support innovative approaches to ecological mitigation and compensation.
• Deliver clear, high quality ecological deliverables in line with guidance.
• Coach, mentor and support other staff; manage tasks and projects.
