Waterman Infrastructure & Environment (WIE) has experienced significant growth in the rail sector, with numerous high-profile projects and long-term frameworks. We currently have a large portfolio of projects, with more expected in /24. We are looking for an Associate Director to join our expanding team in one of our national offices.
Based in London, Birmingham, or Redhill, our diverse team works on some of the most prestigious and innovative projects in the UK and globally.
Job Description
We seek a motivated and talented professional with consultancy experience to join our established team working on infrastructure and redevelopment projects. Recent successes have led to team growth and excellent opportunities for the right candidate.
The successful candidate will join a highly regarded team known for quality, technical expertise, and providing commercially focused solutions to public and private clients.
Role requires:
- Leading Waterman Rail projects, including scope, cost, quality, risk, safety, health, and environmental management.
- Promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility within delivery teams.
- Managing and delivering significant, high-value, multi-disciplinary infrastructure bids and projects.
- Engaging with clients to support growth in the rail sector.
- Developing and maintaining teams to deliver world-class projects on time and within budget.
- Understanding and meeting client needs, ensuring confidence in our delivery.
- Briefing and directing project teams for cost-effective and compliant work.
- Working under pressure to produce high-quality reports and compelling bids within deadlines.
- Leading bid development and crafting winning proposals.
- Managing and coordinating rail bid delivery with technical leads.
- Representing Waterman with clients on assigned projects.
- Utilizing Waterman's project management systems and tools for project delivery.
- Developing and executing project plans.
- Leading cross-disciplinary teams, building capability and stakeholder confidence.
- Managing information flow between teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Applying performance management techniques, including KPIs, to enhance project performance.
- Managing change control and producing progress reports.
- Ensuring delivery of revenues from repeat clients through flawless project execution.
- Achieving planned profit margins and completing projects without write-downs.
- Identifying risks and opportunities, mitigating risks, and minimizing claims exposure.
- Managing sub-contracts and fostering innovation and digital tools use.
- Experience with Design & Build projects, especially within contractor or design organizations.
- Knowledge of various contracting types, especially target cost, and dispute resolution.
- Ensuring robust programmes and reporting against milestones.
- Experience with Network Rail, TfL, and major contractors' delivery processes.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Chartered status (C.Eng/MIStructE).
- Full UK driving license.
- Familiarity with Network Rail, TfL, and other key client processes.
- Significant UK Rail sector experience in engineering or multidisciplinary projects.
- Experience in project management or CEM/CRE roles on rail infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with public sector frameworks.
