Industry Expertise - Aviation Subject Matter Expert

Jacobsen|Daniels is seeking a motivated and self-reliant person with at least 20 years’ experience in planning and preliminary design of aviation/transportation projects including rental car facilities, passenger terminals, ground transportation, rail, bus, parking, and maintenance facilities. The executive will be responsible for providing technical and creative leadership and direction for a range of projects as determined by the Planning Division Leader. This position interfaces independently with the Division Leader, executive level management, and/or client personnel as needed. Hours are expected to be 10-30 hours each week depending on the assigned project.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  1. Executes, manages, and delegates the workflow of multiple and/or complex projects for clients while driving results as defined by the Division Leader.
  2. Provides oversight of professional design services being performed by J|D staff or outside resources.
  3. Provides support in new business proposal development and interviews.
  4. Helps Division Leader work effectively and in the best interests of client(s); maximizes firm’s network of resources to enhance client services.
  5. Evaluates, assesses, and provides regular feedback to the Division Leader on the results of all assigned projects.
  6. Assists in promoting corporate values and a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  7. Assists in successfully bringing together people from different disciplines, internal and external to achieve desired project outcomes.
  8. Supports in delivering technical and creative solutions, and the ability to align team members behind these solutions.

Education and Experience:

Four-year college degree in architecture, civil engineering, aviation management or similar, with a minimum of 20+ years of experience in aviation/transportation projects. A professional or graduate degree is highly desirable.

Licensing/Certifications:

Professional license or technical certifications in the area of specialization are highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Thorough understanding of aviation/transportation projects with specific experience in rental car facilities, passenger terminals, ground transportation, rail, bus, parking, and maintenance facilities.
  2. Ability to produce AutoCAD drawings, diagrams, and 2D illustrations to support project efforts.
  3. Ability to provide oversight of professional design services.
  4. Strategic thinking with a balanced analytical and creative approach to problem solving.
  5. Efficient planning and project management skills.
  6. Effective written communication skills for engaging with executive leadership, team members, and clients.
  7. Client-focused approach; understanding client needs and delivering objectives.
  8. Subject Matter Expert in relevant technical skills.
  9. High integrity and ability to build trust with project team and clients.
  10. Excellent time management skills.
  11. Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Key Measures of Success:

Performance will be evaluated quarterly and annually by the Division Leader based on outlined roles and responsibilities.

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to stand, sit for long periods, bend, type, talk, hear, walk, and lift or move no more than 10 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Mental Demands:

Regularly use communication skills, interpret data, analyze problems, perform math reasoning, learn new skills, meet deadlines, and interact with staff and organizations.

Working Conditions:

Primarily remote; occasional travel to client sites may be required.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to the Division Leader or other executive management.
