WSP is involved in numerous HS2, Network Rail, and Transport for London projects that will reshape the rail industry and leave a legacy for the century to come.

Although part of a multi-disciplinary Rail consultancy, the MEP team is a tight-knit group working closely to deliver some of the largest and most complex buildings worldwide.

A little about your role…

The Stations team within WSP’s Rail business is actively seeking an Associate Director MEP (Rail) to lead teams delivering Rail MEP Building Services for major railway projects.

The role covers all aspects of technical delivery, from Concept to RIBA 4 / GRIP 5 stages, including client engagement and internal multi-disciplinary coordination. The team offers excellent opportunities for the right candidate to enhance their career and deliver prestigious Rail Projects in the UK and abroad.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Leading Rail stations M&E design team.
  • Liaising with clients and contractors on M&E design.
  • Acting as the focal point between the client team and WSP design team.
  • Working closely with the M&E design team to resolve design issues.
  • Leading and managing a team of M&E engineers.
  • Having a working knowledge of the design of Rail stations' Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health systems; knowledge of Telecoms and Fire systems is an advantage.
  • Understanding compliance requirements related to Building Regulations, Part L, and sustainable/Net Zero MEP design.
  • Contributing to WSP’s and clients’ net zero carbon commitments through sustainable, low-carbon design.
  • Sharing knowledge and technical skills across the global WSP network.
  • Interpreting client specifications and standards for developing designs.
  • Having contractual and commercial awareness regarding Employer’s Instructions, Early Warnings, and contractual correspondence.

  • The Rail Station MEP team comprises over 100 mechanical, electrical, and public health engineers.
  • You will collaborate with a diverse, talented group on project work across the design lifecycle, from early concept to detailed design, for clients including Network Rail, HS2, TfL, and others.

Reporting to the MEP Service Lead, you will have the chance to work on some of the most challenging multi-disciplinary Rail station projects globally. Our office provides a flexible, modern workspace designed to support health and wellbeing, with natural light and collaborative spaces.

What we want you to demonstrate…

  • Experience leading MEPFC building services design teams in the Rail environment during design and construction phases.
  • Chartership with a UK Engineering Institution.
  • Understanding of standards such as HS2, Network Rail, or London Underground; M&E building services design requirements in Rail or similar regulated environments; working with clients and contractors during design and construction stages.
