Job overview
The Estates Hard FM Team is responsible for the day to day repairs, PPM and operational testing for a wide range of building services and equipment located in the Trust.
We are seeking a highly motivated and flexible Head of Estates to manage the PFI Estate at the Royal London Hospital site, providing comprehensive operational maintenance services across the Trust and its associated properties.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive team player with a positive attitude, possessing a thorough understanding of the latest Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs) and being well-versed in current ACOPs, BS & EN standards, and SFG20 Standard Maintenance Specifications as they pertain to the management of Building Services in a complex healthcare environment.
A demonstrated expertise in managing statutory compliance within NHS building premises is essential. Key areas of compliance include water hygiene, electrical systems, asbestos and fire management, medical gases, and HVAC systems.
You should have proven managerial skills in maintenance and contractor management, with the ability to communicate complex issues effectively to both clinical and non-clinical senior management. Excellent communication skills are essential for articulating problems and solutions.
An understanding of financial management within an NHS setting is required, along with experience in managing delegated budgets.
This position requires participation in the on-call rota, which includes out-of-hours work.
Main duties of the job
Accountable to the Director of Estates and Facilities, the post-holder will provide technical operational leadership and strategic direction for all engineering and infrastructure activities, including fire safety, across acute and community-based sites. In alignment with the strategic objectives set by the Director of Estates and Facilities, the post-holder will oversee the coordination of capital projects and backlog programs. They will ensure that technical standards, engineering excellence, and patient safety are prioritised in the delivery of engineering and infrastructure services. This will be achieved through a structured process of accountability and compliance with statutory and non-statutory requirements, adhering to HTM/HBN standards and supported by a comprehensive framework of Authorised Engineers, Authorised Persons, and Certified Persons.
