Job Opportunity: Associate Director (Head of Estates) at Whipps Cross Hospital

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Estates & Facilities team as the Associate Director (Head of Estates) at Whipps Cross Hospital, part of the Barts Health Group, a major provider of acute healthcare in North East London.

This role requires an adaptable individual with excellent Estates management knowledge, effective communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to prioritize and embrace new ideas. A passion for delivering high-quality estates services centered around patients, staff, and the public is essential.

Project and Strategic Involvement

There are plans to build a new, net-zero carbon hospital at Whipps Cross as part of the NHS New Hospitals Programme, expected to open within the next decade. As Head of Estates, you will be involved in delivering this scheme and ensuring the Estates team is equipped to manage the transition while maintaining safe, high-quality services for the existing healthcare estate.

Over the past five years, over £40m has been invested in capital schemes to address backlog maintenance and improve the hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical operational leadership and strategic direction for engineering, infrastructure (including fire safety), and building activities on the hospital site.
• Support the Director of Estates and Facilities in achieving strategic objectives, including managing capital, project, and backlog programmes.
• Ensure all technical standards, engineering excellence, and patient safety requirements are met through structured accountability and compliance with HTM/HBN standards, supported by a robust Authorised Engineer, Authorised Person, and Certified Person structure.
