Job summary

Bellrock Group is seeking an Associate Director of Fire Engineering to lead the national Fire Engineering service line, overseeing technical delivery, commercial performance and strategic growth. You will ensure high technical and regulatory standards while maintaining profitability and client satisfaction.

This role blends technical authority with leadership, shaping the function's direction, mentoring senior engineers and ensuring compliance with the Building Safety Act.

Job description

As Associate Director of Fire Engineering, you will lead the Fire Engineering service line nationally, overseeing technical delivery, commercial performance and strategic growth.

You will be responsible for ensuring that fire engineering services are delivered to the highest technical and regulatory standards while maintaining profitability, resource efficiency and client satisfaction.

This role combines technical authority with operational and commercial leadership. You will shape the direction of the fire engineering function, support senior engineers, and ensure compliance with legislative frameworks including the Building Safety Act.

As part of the role, you may be asked to contribute to Safety Case Reviews and HAZID (Hazard Identification) activities where required.

Key Responsibilties

Providing strategic leadership to the Fire Engineering team, including Principal Engineers and Senior Fire Engineers.

Owning the technical governance framework for Fire Engineering outputs, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and professional standards.

Ensuring Consistent Application Of

• Approved Document B
• BS 7974 performance-based frameworks
• PAS 9980 (where applicable)
• Building Safety Act requirements
• Relevant British Standards and sector guidance
• Overseeing technical peer review structures and sign-off hierarchies.
• Driving commercial performance including utilisation, revenue targets and pipeline conversion.
• Supporting bid strategy, fee proposals and major framework submissions.
• Managing team capacity planning and recruitment in line with projected growth.
• Leading the development of fire modelling capability and performance-based engineering services.
• Acting as senior escalation point for complex regulatory matters or client disputes.
• Supporting cross-division collaboration with Fire Risk, FRAEW and Compliance teams.
• Maintaining professional indemnity risk awareness and ensuring engineering defensibility.
• Representing Bellrock at senior client meetings, industry forums and technical events where required.

Skills & Experience

• Extensive experience in fire engineering consultancy, including leadership of complex, high-rise and performance-based projects.
• Strong commercial acumen with experience managing team utilisation and financial performance.
• Deep understanding of UK fire legislation, Building Regulations and performance-based design methodologies.
• Experience leading and mentoring senior technical professionals.
• Demonstrable experience in governance, quality control and engineering sign-off structures.
• Strong understanding of professional indemnity exposure and risk mitigation in consultancy environments.
