Atkins Building Design Practice are looking to appoint an Associate Fire Engineer who is looking to further develop their career within a forward-thinking Building Design practice. This opportunity will involve working as part of a national practice of Building Design professionals delivering fire engineering design solutions to clients across sectors including Cities & Development, Commercial, Energy, Residential, and Transportation.

There is flexibility around where the role is based because although most of our Fire Engineering team are in Epsom and London offices, we aim to expand teams in the North and South West. Preferred UK locations: Bristol, Epsom, London, or Derby.

As a senior member of the Fire Engineering team, you will manage your own projects and collaborate with other senior team members to develop the team and enhance technical capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Work across various sectors from residential to rail transportation and energy facilities.
  • Manage multiple projects from inception to delivery, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards and supporting junior staff.
  • Support project delivery, monitor milestones and budgets.
  • Stay updated on regulations and legislation.
  • Develop fire safety strategies.
  • Assess fire risks and collaborate on mitigation strategies.
  • Review fire safety installations for quality.
  • Lead tenders for new projects.
  • Serve as Technical Lead on performance-based designs.
  • Build and maintain client relationships to generate new opportunities.
  • Prepare reports, participate in team meetings, and liaise with clients.
  • Mentor junior team members.

Requirements:

  • Engineering degree, preferably in fire engineering or a related postgraduate qualification (others considered).
  • Experience in fire engineering roles, including outside consultancy.
  • Knowledge of fire standards like BS9999, NFPA 130, BS9992, EN45545.
  • Member of IFE; Chartered Fire Engineer preferred.
  • Proven success in delivering fire strategies.
  • Ability to mentor and support team development.
  • Flexible working approach.
  • Strong report writing and organizational skills.
