Job description

An Associate Director Delay Analysis job vacancy with a bespoke, London-based claims and disputes consultancy seeking to expand their team.

This company specializes in building-related projects, delays, and construction claims encountered during the construction process.

This role is suitable for experienced delay analysts who have worked in a specialist delay claims and disputes role for several years and are ready to advance from Senior or Managing Consultant to an Associate Director level with corresponding responsibilities.

As an Associate Director Delay, you will operate at a senior level, capable of managing multiple commissions independently and integrating seamlessly into the organization.

Candidates should have significant exposure to delay-related claims work and some experience with formal disputes such as adjudications, arbitrations, or litigation.

The employer offers a range of consultancy services to major clients in the building and management contracting sector in London and Southeast England, often involving large projects with delay issues that lack in-house expertise.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing advisory services on dispute avoidance and resolution
  • Leading and assisting in preparing claims
  • Negotiating and settling claims and disputes
  • Supporting and representing clients in mediation and adjudication
  • Offering expert witness and advisory services for arbitration and litigation as needed

This role offers exposure to diverse scenarios requiring problem-solving, providing professional challenges and satisfaction.

Responsibilities and Duties

Reporting to a senior director, the Associate Director will be responsible for:

  • Forensic investigation of project delays
  • Preparing delay analyses for various construction and engineering projects, including technical data and evidence of delays, presented in reports and programmes
  • Drafting reports for negotiation and dispute resolution, including advocacy or assisting experts
  • Defending or preparing extension of time claims for clients across the industry
  • Providing live planning support and assistance
  • Developing programmes for new projects and monitoring existing ones to ensure efficiency
Desired Skills and Experience
  • At least three years' experience as a construction project planner
  • Deep understanding of delay analysis methods, applied prospectively and retrospectively
  • Proficiency in planning software such as Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject, and MS Project
  • Knowledge of standard contracts like NEC and JCT
  • Understanding of construction law, contracts, and delay matters
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent construction techniques knowledge
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
  • Higher qualification in construction law or similar (desired)
  • Membership in professional bodies like CIArb or MCIOB (advantageous)

Salary range: £95,000 to £120,000 depending on experience
