Job summary

Robert Bird Group in Manchester seeks an Associate to join the expanding Construction Engineering Team. You will lead project delivery, mentor staff, and engage with clients while coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.

The role combines technical leadership with people management and commercial responsibilities. Typical projects span infrastructure, complex structures, and evolving pipelines in nuclear, rail, and water sectors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Chartered Member of IStructE, ICE, or equivalent.
• 8+ years of relevant engineering experience with leadership.
• At least 2 years in design and design development.
• At least 2 years in account or client management.
• Strong client-facing experience and relationship management.
• Familiarity with computational design workflows is advantageous.
• Experience in nuclear, rail, or water infrastructure is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead project teams, mentor staff, and drive technical excellence across the UK practice.
• Promote client relationships and secure repeat business for the firm.
• Oversee concept design, project delivery, and design checks with Directors.
• Manage sub-consultants, scope, programme, and commercial terms.
• Coordinate project programming, resource planning, and cost control.
• Ensure Health, Safety and quality policies on projects and sites.
