Assistant Underwriter - Property & Package

Location: London with hybrid working

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter to join our South East Property & Package team based at our Fenchurch Street offices in London, with hybrid working available.

The Assistant Underwriter will underwrite business and support the Underwriting team in accordance with the business plan and within delegated underwriting authority. With full support and training from experienced colleagues, this is a great opportunity to progress your underwriting career!

Your New Role
  1. Underwrite business in accordance with the business plan and within our UK and European business.
  2. Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met.
  3. Contribute to the recording and measurement of insurance risks to ensure accuracy and good practice.
  4. Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners, and colleagues to increase market exposure.
  5. Develop knowledge of market dynamics and cycles to support business performance.
  6. Underwrite insurance risks to meet business objectives, including negotiating rates, terms, and conditions for existing and new business, ensuring production and issue of contract certainty documentation, and supporting credit control in payment collection.
  7. Support the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress towards business objectives.
About you
  • Experience within an underwriting support role, ideally in Property or Casualty.
  • Highly organized with good analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving skills – demonstrates tenacity in handling and resolving queries.
  • Intermediate understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages.
  • Team player with the ability to work collaboratively and develop strong working relationships.
  • Flexible approach and ability to recognize and adapt to changing business requirements.
