Role Title: Assistant Underwriter

About the Role:

This role is for an Assistant Underwriter to join our market leading Aviation team. The candidate will look to maintain relationships with brokers, clients and business partners to manage a renewal portfolio and help develop new business opportunities.

This is an opportunity to develop and enhance technical underwriting skills with the help of the Aviation team and the internal Learning and Development department.

About the Department & Team:

Our experienced London-based Aviation teams offer Aviation All Risks and Aviation War insurance products both on a direct and facultative reinsurance basis. General Excess of Loss and Quota Share is not offered by the Aviation All Risks Division however is written in our Aviation Treaty RI division.

We offer global coverage for a diverse range of risks from passenger and cargo airlines through to non-airline risks including commercial helicopters and business jets.

Our classes of business include: Airlines; General Aviation; Contingent All Risks; Airport and Products; Aircraft Spares; Confiscation by Government of Registry; and Excess Third-Party War Liabilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the execution of the annual business plan development in accordance with the stated risk tolerances.
  • Support the teams in maintaining and develop broker relationships.
  • Assist the team with day-to-day duties in quoting, reviewing renewals and new business.
  • Acts as a conduit between the underwriters and underwriting assistants.
  • Use of rating tools and portals to support the data capture across the portfolio. Where appropriate, analyse this data and provide insights back to the underwriting team.
  • Contribute and participate in all meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice.
  • Contribute new ideas and concepts to support the development and delivery of the business plan.
  • Develop knowledge of market dynamics and market cycles to support the performance of the underwriting team.
  • Support the analysis and subsequent review of the output to identify opportunities and/or trends to assist the team in achieving business objectives.
  • Process entries, as required, onto relevant systems in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy of data with relation to both underwriting and aggregate exposures.
  • Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements forms part of your role, and the demonstration of behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LSM's commitment to our Liberty Values, placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity. LSM expects you to understand your responsibilities relating to all regulatory and internal requirements, and to proactively demonstrate compliance with these requirements and behaviours at all times. These requirements include the Senior Managers and Certification Regime Conduct Rules ,Solvency II, fair treatment of customers, Financial Crime, Data Protection, Conflicts of Interest, and Whistleblowing

Skills and Experience:

  • Solid understanding of insurance business practices focused on the London market.
  • Knowledge of Aviation insurance is desirable but not required.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Intermediate level understanding of Excel and other relevant software.
  • A high level of numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification desired – e.g. ACII.
