Job summary

McTaggart Construction is seeking an experienced Assistant Site Manager to support the delivery of affordable housing and construction projects across our West Coast sites in Scotland. This hands‑on role works with the Site Manager to keep programmes on track, maintain high standards and ensure safe, efficient site operations.

You will coordinate activities, inspect quality, assist with snagging and sign-off, promote safety, run inductions, and support commercial, procurement and technical teams

Qualifications

• 3+ years on-site experience in housebuilding or social housing.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Knowledge of construction health and safety requirements.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Support the Site Manager with the safe and successful delivery of construction projects.
• Help coordinate site activities, subcontractors, suppliers and direct labour.
• Monitor progress against project programmes and assist with short-term planning.
• Carry out site inspections and quality checks to ensure work meets required standards.
• Produce snagging lists and support the sign-off process for completed works.
• Promote a strong health and safety culture across the site.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and routine safety inspections with site staff and subcontractors.
• Assist with organising materials, plant, equipment and site facilities.
• Record labour levels, progress updates and site information accurately.
• Attend and support progress meetings with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Work with commercial, procurement and technical teams to support project delivery.
• Step in to oversee site operations when required in the absence of the Site Manager.
• Support sustainability and waste management initiatives on site.
