Job summary

Mencap is seeking an Assistant Shop Manager for its Bury The Rock Shop in Greater Manchester. This permanent, full-time role offers 37.5 hours per week on a 7-day rota, with flexible scheduling.

You will lead in-store systems, drive donations and sales, and promote the Gift Aid scheme to maximise income while ensuring high presentation standards and robust staff and volunteer development. We value commitment to Mencap’s inclusive culture and welcome applications from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

• Experience managing a retail team, preferably in charity or non-profit.
• Ability to meet profit targets and manage costs.
• Experience with Gift Aid is a plus.
• Willingness to travel to meetings and training.
• Commitment to Mencap values and inclusive culture.
• Flexible with weekend work and Bank Holidays.

Responsibilities

• Help develop in-store systems and promote donations and sales to maximise profits.
• Represent Mencap as an efficient and charitable organisation by upholding its aims and values.
• Ensure stock is generated from local donors and maximise Gift Aid income.
• Sign up donors to the Gift Aid scheme and maximise income.
• Achieve profit targets by maximizing sales and controlling costs.
• Maintain the store presentation to a high standard.
• Build and train a volunteer team and conduct reviews for staff and volunteers.
• Manage all financial and cash handling and health and safety responsibilities.
