Job summary

RG Setsquare in Bristol is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial team on construction projects. You will assist with cost management, procurement, valuations, subcontractor administration and financial reporting in a fast-paced environment.

This role offers a permanent position with opportunities to gain experience across the project lifecycle, learn contracts, and contribute to value engineering while working with project managers, site teams and clients.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
• Previous QS experience or placement in a construction environment.
• Strong numerical ability and understanding of contracts.

Responsibilities

• Assist in cost estimates, budgets and tender docs.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Reporting To: Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial team in delivering construction projects efficiently and cost-effectively. The successful candidate will assist with cost management, procurement, valuations, subcontractor administration, and financial reporting while gaining valuable experience within a fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and tender documentation.
• Support the management of project costs throughout the project lifecycle.
• Measure and value works completed on site.
• Prepare and assist with interim valuations and final accounts.
• Help manage subcontractor procurement, payments, and variations.
• Maintain accurate records of project costs and contractual documentation.
• Assist in identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
• Support monthly cost reporting and forecasting activities.
• Liaise with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, and clients.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual obligations.
• Contribute to value engineering and cost-saving initiatives.

Requirements

• Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying role, placement year, apprenticeship, or construction environment is desirable.
• Understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.

Desirable Skills

• Knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
• Experience working on residential, commercial, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects.
• Working towards RICS or CIOB accreditation.
