Job summary

Recco is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support its commercial team across a varied portfolio of construction and refurbishment projects. You will help manage costs, procurement and financial reporting while learning from experienced surveyors and project teams.

The role offers hands-on experience across the commercial lifecycle in roofing, refurbishment and property improvement, with opportunities to grow in a delivery-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as Assistant/ Trainee QS in construction
• Degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management or working towards one
• Understanding of subcontract procurement, valuations and cost control
• Strong numerical, organisational and communication skills
• Proactive approach with interest in commercial management
• UK driving licence beneficial for travel

Responsibilities

• Support commercial management of roofing, refurbishment and property improvement projects
• Assist with subcontractor procurement, tender analysis and package comparisons
• Prepare and maintain cost reports, budgets, forecasts and records
• Assist with valuations, applications for payment and subcontractor accounts
• Monitor variations and changes to project scope
• Support preparation and agreement of final accounts
• Coordinate with Contracts Managers, Site Managers, subcontractors and suppliers on costs and progress
• Identify commercial risks and opportunities to keep works within budget
• Maintain accurate records and keep commercial documentation up to date

Its work spans roofing, external building works, internal refurbishment and property maintenance, including programmes for local authorities, housing associations and main contractors.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the commercial management of roofing, refurbishment and property improvement projects.
• Assist with subcontractor procurement, tender analysis and package comparisons.
• Prepare and maintain cost reports, budgets, forecasts and commercial records.
• Assist with valuations, applications for payment and subcontractor account management.
• Monitor variations, additional works and changes to project scope.
• Support the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
• Work closely with Contracts Managers, Site Managers, subcontractors and suppliers to monitor project costs and progress.
• Identify commercial risks and opportunities, helping ensure works are delivered within budget.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure commercial documentation is kept up to date.

About You

• Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Trainee Quantity Surveyor role within construction.
• A degree or relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management, or currently working towards one.
• An understanding of subcontract procurement, valuations, cost control and commercial reporting.
• Strong numerical, organisational and communication skills.
• A proactive approach with a genuine interest in developing a career in commercial management.
• A full UK driving licence would be beneficial where project travel is required.
