Job description

The Commercial team handles all aspects of cost-effective building, including quantity surveying, estimating, procurement, and material purchasing.

With oversight on material selection, cost, customer satisfaction, and sales, our Commercial team—comprising Estimators, Quantity Surveyors, and Material Buyers—aims to deliver high-quality homes at optimal costs. Their work is vital to our ongoing success and offers a dynamic challenge that will utilize your creativity and commercial skills.

Reporting to a Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor, or Managing Surveyor, you will support commercial and surveying tasks on a site. Your duties include preparing reports and schedules, handling administrative tasks like filing, emails, and calls, and maintaining a tidy Commercial presentation. You should be eager to learn, assist with subcontractor procedures, and ensure compliance with Group Policies and Procedures.

You will be expected to:

1. Assist in maintaining cost control throughout development
2. Help with accurate costing for site development
3. Support in compiling cost and cash flow reports using available systems
4. Assist in tender preparation and subcontractor procurement following Group procedures
5. Process subcontract orders, payments, and variations, using Excel and the Group payment system (COINS)
6. Understand and assist in evaluating and agreeing on variations and instructions
7. Support all commercial responsibilities related to respective RSLs
8. Attend team meetings as required
9. Provide ad hoc duties and administrative support when needed
10. Maintain filing systems and databases
11. Promote adherence to Group values, systems, policies, and procedures
12. Ensure compliance with Group IT systems
13. Assist in compiling weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports
14. Stay informed about new materials and construction methods

To succeed in this role, you should have:

• Studying or recently qualified in surveying
• A valid CSCS card
• Strong numeracy skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and present data for budgeting and valuations
• Methodical, organized, and committed to high standards
• Proficiency in MS Office and Excel, with good written English skills
• Clear communication skills, able to work under pressure
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Effective time management and multi-tasking abilities
• A professional and courteous manner with internal and external stakeholders
