Job summary

Bennett & Game Recruitment is representing a well-established specialist construction company seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in Lymington. You will work alongside an experienced QS, gaining hands-on exposure on live projects with a clear progression route toward Quantity Surveyor.

The role includes study support, a pension, 30 days holiday, and direct access to senior management. A proactive, detail-oriented mindset and a full UK driving licence are required.

Qualifications

• Some experience within a Quantity Surveying, commercial or construction environment, or a relevant qualification or placement.
• HNC, HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline is advantageous.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Confident using Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
• Good understanding of construction processes, cost control and commercial practices.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with site teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop within a commercial role.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle due to regular travel between the office and project sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist with measuring and pricing works from drawings and specifications.
• Prepare cost estimates, Bills of Quantities and interim valuations.
• Obtain subcontractor and supplier quotations and assist with tender comparisons.
• Monitor project costs against budgets and identify cost variances.
• Assist with subcontractor accounts, final accounts and applications for payment.
• Maintain accurate cost records and commercial documentation.
• Liaise with site teams, subcontractors and suppliers on commercial matters.
• Support the commercial team throughout the pre-construction and construction phases.
