Job summary

Gap Construction is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Brentwood. The role offers exposure to a diverse range of projects, from procurement through to final accounts, with a salary of 35,000–40,000 (DOE).

You will work alongside an experienced team, supporting budgets, subcontractor quotations, and cost reporting while developing a career in construction contracting.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Quantity Surveying or commercial role within construction.
• Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management qualification, or currently working towards one.
• Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Good communication and relationship-building with clients and suppliers.
• Ability to manage priorities in a busy team.
• Full UK Driving Licence preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with commercial management of construction projects from procurement through to completion.
• Support Quantity Surveyors with project budgets, cost plans and financial reporting.
• Assist with subcontractor procurement, including obtaining and evaluating quotations.
• Prepare and review subcontractor packages and orders.
• Assist with valuations, variations, applications for payment and final accounts.
• Monitor project costs against budget and highlight any potential commercial issues.
• Assist with the preparation of commercial reports and forecasts.
• Work closely with Project Managers and Site Managers to support the successful delivery of projects.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Develop a strong understanding of commercial processes and construction contracts.

Their work spans commercial, industrial, education, refurbishment, fit out, restoration and new build sectors, working with a strong portfolio of repeat clients.

Person Specification

• Previous experience within a Quantity Surveying or commercial role within the construction industry
• Relevant Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management qualification, or currently working towards one
• Graduate Quantity Surveyors with relevant industry experience will be considered
• Good understanding of construction processes and commercial principles
• Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Good communication skills with the ability to build relationships with colleagues, clients and suppliers
• Proactive approach with a genuine interest in developing a career in Quantity Surveying
• Ability to manage priorities and work effectively within a busy commercial team
• Full UK Driving Licence preferred
