Madisons Recruitment are recruiting for an Assistant Quantity Surveyoron a permanent basis for a client of ours located in Reading.

We are looking for a detail-oriented and ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team, supporting the delivery of cost and contract management across a range of earthworks and civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will gain valuable hands-on experience in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, contributing to the commercial success of infrastructure, highways, drainage, and large-scale groundworks schemes.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing cost estimates, tender documentation, and contract evaluations for earthworks and civil engineering packages.
• Monitor and manage project budgets, cash flows, and cost reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support the preparation of monthly valuations, payment applications, and final accounts.
• Measure and value works on-site, ensuring accurate records are maintained for variations and changes.
• Assist with the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers, including preparation of enquiry documents and analysis of quotations.
• Liaise with site management teams to track progress, identify cost risks, and contribute to commercial strategy.
• Ensure compliance with contractual terms and conditions, including NEC and JCT forms of contract.
• Participate in site meetings and support with resolving any commercial or contractual issues that arise.

Requirements

• Degree or working towards a qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
• Prior experience in civil engineering or earthworks projects is highly desirable.
• Understanding of groundworks, earthmoving, drainage, and infrastructure-related activities.
• Strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills.
• Competent with Microsoft Excel and quantity surveying software (e.g., Causeway, Candy, or similar).
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Full UK driving licence (preferred due to site visits).
