Job summary

Galliford Try’s Thames team in Hampton is recruiting an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the framework commercial team and collaborate with pre-construction, design and delivery colleagues.

You will prepare subcontract documents, negotiate terms, and assist with interim payments, changes, and contractual notices. The role covers cost control, forecasts, and subcontract liabilities, with attendance at progress and risk meetings.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree in quantity surveying or commercial/construction.
• Experience in commercial or construction roles is desirable.
• CSCS card held or in progress.
• Knowledge of standard contract forms (e.g., NEC, JCT) is advantageous.

Job description

Galliford Try's Thames team is recruiting an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in Hampton, Middlesex. The post supports the framework commercial team and works with colleagues responsible for pre-construction, design and delivery. Its remit may cover one large project or several smaller schemes.

The assistant will prepare subcontract documents, negotiate prices and terms, and help assess interim payments and changes. Duties include issuing contractual notices, preparing compensation-event quotations and supporting monthly payment applications to clients.

The role also covers:

• checking site records with operational staff
• producing cost-value reconciliations and tracking expenditure
• forecasts
• subcontract liabilities

Attendance at progress and risk-reduction meetings forms part of the work. Applicants should have a relevant degree, suitable commercial or construction experience, or both. Experience on major projects or multiple smaller schemes is requested, together with an appropriate CSCS card and knowledge of standard contract forms.

Professional membership is desirable, including candidates working towards it. The advert seeks strong Excel and Word skills, familiarity with systems such as CEMAR or Oracle, and effective communication and organisation.
