Job Overview

Welcome to CNWL Mental Health Inpatient Services for Children and Young People. Collingham Child and Family Centre is one of six National 7 Day Inpatient settings, working in partnership with Chelsea Hospital Schools for children aged 5 - 13 years old. We are currently recruiting for a CAMHS Nursing Associate position.

Located between High Street Kensington & Earls Court, Collingham is a Tier 4 Children’s Mental Health Unit providing acute inpatient care and schooling for young people with complex mental health needs and behavioral problems.

The team includes Consultant Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Matron, Ward Manager, Qualified Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Doctors, Systemic Family Psychotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians, Social Workers, and Teaching staff. We also host students and trainees from these disciplines.

We are committed to young people's mental health outcomes, delivering patient-centered, safe, and effective care. At Collingham, you will support children and families in building resilience, coping strategies, and healthy relationships through therapeutic interventions and structured activities.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Psychologist in a Tier 4 CAMHS unit. This new role at Collingham offers a chance to contribute to its development and become an integral part of the therapeutic services.

We seek a motivated, enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and adaptable individual to work within our multidisciplinary team. The post-holder will support the psychological well-being of patients, working alongside colleagues and receiving supervision from a qualified Psychologist, to deliver psychological assessments, formulations, and interventions.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
  • Undertake protocol-based psychological assessments under supervision, using tests, self-report measures, and interviews.
  • Assist in the formulation and delivery of routine care plans involving psychological treatments, under supervision.
  • Support in coordinating therapy groups and treatments.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings such as ward rounds and CPA meetings.
  • Support psychological assessments and outcome measures scoring under supervision.
  • Receive regular clinical supervision and develop relevant skills.
  • Contribute to training and support of other staff in psychological care.
  • Maintain clinical records and data, providing reports as needed.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • First or Upper Second Class Honours in Psychology, accredited by the British Psychological Society, conferring Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership.
Experience
  • Post-graduate experience in psychological assessment and treatment with children and adolescents.
  • Experience in research projects or audits.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Desirable: experience with assessments like ADOS-2, ADI-R, 3Di, WISC-V.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of research methodology and statistics.
  • Understanding of adolescent mental health issues and assessment/treatment methods.
  • Awareness of diversity and racial issues.
  • Desirable: knowledge of mental health crises, safeguarding, neurodiversity.
Skills
  • Skills in psychological assessment and interventions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to teach and train others.
  • Strong IT skills for data entry and analysis.
Abilities
  • Effective teamwork skills.
  • Adherence to clinical governance.
  • Concentration and ability to work in restricted positions.
  • Ability to handle emotionally stressful situations and communicate complex information.
  • Manage verbal abuse and physical aggression safely.
