The Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Cambridge is seeking to recruit a new faculty member at the Assistant Professor/Associate Professor level to contribute to research and teaching in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
We welcome applications from candidates with interdisciplinary expertise and a strong interest in human-centric design research and teaching across all levels, from undergraduate to doctoral studies.
Cambridge has a rich history in HCI, with centers like the MRC Applied Psychology Unit, Xerox EuroPARC, and Microsoft Research Cambridge. The city promotes collaboration through casual and formal interactions, and recent growth in areas like Intelligent Interactive Systems and Digital Humanities offers exciting opportunities. The university's collegiate system fosters interdisciplinary work across various fields.
The appointed individual will enhance the curriculum and teach undergraduate courses in interaction design and HCI fundamentals. There will also be opportunities to develop graduate research content within the MPhil in Advanced Computer Science, covering topics such as human-centred AI, socio-technical interaction theories, psychology of programming, and more.
The department provides strong support for research development, with resources for research management, funding, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Candidates should have a prominent profile in the HCI community, with a proven track record bridging technical human-centric design practices and interdisciplinary methods spanning social sciences, brain sciences, humanities, and arts.
Interviews are scheduled to be held in person in Cambridge on 26 and 27 March 2025. The position will commence on 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
