About Us
Back2back is a Brighton-based, independent TV production company specializing in award-winning factual series and documentaries. Our work explores real-life narratives, with a focus on criminal cases and the human stories behind them. We’re dedicated to producing insightful content that resonates deeply with audiences.

Role Overview
We’re looking for a passionate, detail-oriented Assistant Producer to join our dynamic team on an exciting true crime series. This role is central to the production process and calls for a strong mix of investigative research, organisational skills, and hands-on experience in the field.
While previous experience in true crime is a plus, it’s not essential — what matters most is a sharp editorial eye, curiosity, and a commitment to telling complex, emotionally rich stories with care and depth.
Working closely with two office-based researchers, the Assistant Producer will support the development of content across a 10-part series (70% US-based, 30% UK-based). Responsibilities include conducting deep-dive research, sourcing contributors, casting, and liaising with individuals connected to recent high-profile murder cases. You'll play a key role in uncovering story angles and helping shape the psychological dimension of each episode.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a full time Brighton and location based role.
Due to the US filming, the role will entail working to US hrs for a portion of the contract.

Key Responsibilities
• In-Depth Case Research & Documentation
Conduct comprehensive research into each case, sourcing and analysing key documents such as psychiatric reports, court transcripts, and personal histories. Produce detailed, accurate documentation to support narrative development, production planning, and scriptwriting.

• Archive Footage & Clearance Management
Source and review potentially sensitive or distressing archive material. Handle clearance requests through relevant authorities, including courthouses, police departments, and news agencies, ensuring all materials are cleared for use in line with legal and ethical standards.

• Contributor Research & Coordination
Identify and engage potential contributors, including, detectives involved in the frontline of the investigation, friends, family members, attorneys (US) barristers (UK) and individuals connected to each case. Lead initial outreach, build and maintain relationships, and ensure clear, sensitive communication throughout

• Duty of Care & Record-Keeping
Ensure the highest standard of Duty of Care for all contributors, maintaining meticulous records and managing sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

• Filming Preparation & Editorial Support
Review case files and existing research to help shape editorial planning and filming strategies. Assist in developing interview questions and preparing contributors for filming.

• Interviewing & Relationship Building
Conduct interviews where appropriate, developing strong, trusting relationships with contributors to support authentic storytelling and nuanced exploration of psychological themes.

• Production Logistics Support
Collaborate with the production team to coordinate shoot logistics, including scheduling, travel arrangements, location planning, and equipment requirements.

• Expert Contributor Research
Help to identify and source experts such as psychologists, criminologists, and legal professionals to support each case.

• Project Timeline & Workflow Support
Work closely with the team to maintain project schedules and ensure deadlines are met, supporting a smooth and timely production process.

About you
The ideal candidate will have proven experience as an Assistant Producer or in a comparable role within documentary or factual television, or relevant academic research. They will demonstrate strong investigative research skills and the ability to work with sensitive, and at times distressing, material with care and professionalism. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks under pressure are essential, as is a confident understanding of tight production deadlines. Familiarity with legal processes and clearance protocols is highly desirable, along with a flexible, proactive attitude and a willingness to travel and adapt to changing schedules, including working across time zones when necessary. A genuine passion for true crime, paired with a commitment to ethical, nuanced storytelling, is at the heart of this role.

Our Commitment
back2back prioritises its duty of care to staff, contributors and our audience. By working alongside established psychologists, providing training and protocols to each staff member, we aim to ensure that all crew feel cared for and safe during every aspect of the production.

We are dedicated to embracing diversity and ensuring equal opportunities for all. We are committed to building a team based on merit, representing a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We believe that the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.
