Job Introduction

Panorama is the BBC’s multi-award-winning flagship current affairs series, making films for BBC One and iPlayer, with value for all news impact across multiple platforms and outlets, including socials. Panorama produces a broad portfolio of films including undercover investigations, social affairs, international affairs news reactive fast turnarounds, access documentaries, and presenter-led films.

Main Responsibilities
  • Initiating ideas for films and developing creative treatments across a wide range of subjects both domestic and international.
  • Setting up shoots and dealing with logistics/schedules.
  • Finding contributors and forging working relationships with them before, during, and after broadcast.
  • Supporting a producer/director and reporter in shaping the editorial direction of a film.
  • Taking responsibility for fact-checking and accuracy.
  • Generating ideas and material for digital outlets, including filming and editing material where required.
  • Having or developing strong relationships within the BBC as well as the independent sector.
Are you the right candidate?
  • Proven track record in major journalistic techniques, e.g., FOIs, open source, data, etc.
  • Demonstrable self-shooting and lighting skills – sequences and interviews.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and produce effective briefs for filming assignments.
  • Substantial knowledge of audiences both digital and terrestrial.
  • Good technical understanding of broadcast cameras and production workflows, with an interest in and ability to adapt to the latest technologies.
  • Clear knowledge and understanding of the BBC’s compliance framework, including editorial guidelines, legal, and high-risk compliance.
  • An understanding of the importance of health & safety, especially on location.
  • Understanding of data protection issues and secure storage of material.
