Assistant Plant Operator – Energy from Waste
Salary and Benefits: £44,000 + bonus, private medical cover, company pension
Location: Dunbar, Scotland
This is a hands‑on operational role supporting the safe, reliable and efficient day‑to‑day running of an established Energy from Waste power station. Working under the direction of the Shift Team Leader, you will carry out operational activities across the boiler house, turbine hall and wider plant while helping to maximise availability and minimise downtime.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine plant walk‑arounds, inspections and equipment monitoring
- Check plant performance and report defects or abnormal operating conditions
- Carry out first‑line mechanical and electrical maintenance where trained
- Operate mobile plant, weighbridges and overhead travelling cranes
- Coordinate the safe delivery and unloading of lime, carbon, ammonia, gas oil and other consumables
- Assist with plant start‑ups, shutdowns and planned outage activities
- Support loading, unloading and general site operational activities
- Update shift logs and provide accurate handovers to the incoming shift
- Work in accordance with plant procedures, safe systems of work and manufacturer guidelines
- Report accidents, incidents and near misses in line with site procedures
- Support the Shift Team in maintaining plant availability and operational performance
Qualifications
- Previous operational, production or maintenance experience within a similar heavy process environment (power generation, waste management, anaerobic digestion, paper production, etc.)
- Experience working with industrial plant, machinery or process equipment
- Strong understanding of health and safety within an operational environment
- Ability to identify equipment defects and undertake basic first‑line maintenance
- Good communication and IT skills, including the ability to maintain accurate operational records
- A full UK driving licence
- Flexibility to work 12‑hour shifts covering days, nights and weekends
