This is a rewarding role providing essential administrative support to the Microbiology department, helping to ensure the timely monitoring, reporting and communication of microbiology and infection-related information across the Trust. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the management of laboratory reports, monitoring outstanding results, processing clinical correspondence, maintaining accurate records, and responding to enquiries from clinical teams and other departments. Working closely with microbiologists, infection prevention and control teams, laboratory staff and ward-based colleagues, you will help support the effective delivery of a safe and responsive service. Previous administrative or customer service experience, together with good IT skills, are essential. Join our dedicated Microbiology team and contribute to a high-quality service that supports patient safety, infection prevention, and the effective delivery of care across the Trust.

  • Support the monitoring and reporting of microbiology test results, ensuring information is processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Manage and maintain departmental databases, spreadsheets, and records in line with Trust policies and information governance requirements.
  • Act as a key point of contact for laboratory staff, consultants, clinical teams, and external organisations, responding to enquiries professionally and efficiently.
  • Support the coordination and distribution of microbiology reports, clinical correspondence, and other service-related documentation.
  • Assist with the monitoring of infection-related data and reporting processes to support patient safety and infection prevention activities across the Trust.
  • Use Trust systems to ensure accurate data entry, record management, and information tracking.
  • Identify and escalation urgent queries, outstanding actions, and data discrepancies to the appropriate members of the team.
  • Support service performance through accurate data validation, audit support, and information management.
  • Liaise with wards, departments, laboratories, and external stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and timely sharing of microbiology information.
  • Assist with meeting administration, including preparing documentation, taking minutes, and following up on agreed actions where required.
