Job summary

The Leicester Arms in Penshurst is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to join its management team at our country pub and inn. The role involves leading front-of-house operations, training staff, and ensuring exceptional guest experiences.

You will work closely with the General Manager to oversee food, beverage and accommodation services, manage staffing and budgets, and drive ongoing improvements across the business.

Qualifications

• Has previous management experience within a quality pub, restaurant, hotel or hospitality business.
• Is confident running a busy service and leading a team.
• Understands commercial performance, labour management and cost controls.

Responsibilities

• Lead busy restaurant and bar services.
• Support the General Manager with day-to-day operation of the business.
• Train, develop and motivate the front-of-house team.
• Ensure consistently high standards of guest service.
• Manage shifts, briefings and team deployment.
• Handle guest feedback and resolve issues professionally.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation and attention to detail.
• Support bedroom operations and ensure accommodation standards are maintained.
• Help manage rotas, labour costs and payroll controls.
• Monitor sales, service standards and key operational KPIs.
• Support stock control, ordering and cash management.
• Help deliver private events, celebrations and functions.
• Ensure company procedures, licensing, health & safety and compliance standards are followed.
• Support recruitment, onboarding and ongoing team development.
• Take responsibility for the venue when the General Manager is not present.

The Leicester Arms is looking for an experienced, energetic and hands-on Assistant General Manager to join our management team at our beautiful country pub and inn in the heart of Penshurst.

Part of the Little & Large Pub Company, The Leicester Arms combines a busy restaurant and bar with 11 individually designed bedrooms, private dining, events and a large garden. Following an extensive refurbishment, the pub has established itself as a destination for great food, drinks, stays and genuine hospitality.

We’re looking for someone who loves being on the floor, enjoys leading a team and understands that great hospitality comes from consistently getting the little things right.

The Role

Working closely with the General Manager, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the business and help ensure consistently high standards across food, drink, bedrooms and guest experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

Experience within a business combining food, beverage and bedrooms would be particularly beneficial.
