Job summary

Team Up - We Build Teams in the United Kingdom is seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to support the month-end close, prepare journals, and assist with management accounts and variance analysis.

You will perform balance sheet reconciliations, maintain audit-ready working papers, and ensure accurate cost coding across departments. The role offers a clear path toward a Management Accountant position with ongoing professional qualification support.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in a finance support, assistant accountant, or junior accounting role.
• AAT Level 4 qualified or actively studying toward completion.
• Working knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping, accruals, and prepayments.
• Experience with month-end processes and account reconciliations.
• Familiarity with management reporting and variance analysis.
• Experience using accounting or ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/Sage desirable).
• Good Excel and Microsoft Office skills; Power BI desirable.
• Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
• Good organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.
• Analytical and problem-solving mindset.
• Ability to handle confidential financial information professionally.
• Fluent English; experience in regulated/multi-entity environment a plus.
• Willingness to progress toward CIMA/ACCA/ACA.

Responsibilities

• Support the month-end close process, ensuring financial information is complete and accurate.
• Prepare journals, including accruals, prepayments, and reclassifications, with supporting documentation.
• Assist with management accounts and variance analysis.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Maintain clear financial working papers for audit and internal review.
• Ensure costs are accurately coded and allocated across departments/workstreams.
• Prepare recurring financial reports to support budget monitoring.
• Support budget holders with financial queries and cost explanations.
• Resolve posting and data discrepancies with transactional finance teams.
• Maintain accurate financial information across systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, data accuracy, and efficiency.
• Support improvements to reporting templates, dashboards, and documentation.
• Continue developing technical accounting and analytical skills.
