Job summary

Empower Family Group in Taunton is seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to join our Finance Team. You will support the production of management accounts, provide financial insight across multiple entities, and help drive continuous improvement within finance.

You will work closely with the Finance Manager, preparing accounts, posting journals in Xero, reconciling balance sheets and assisting with payroll processing.

Qualifications

• Part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or actively studying towards a professional accounting qualification.
• Proven experience in a similar accounting role, or a practice-based role moving into industry.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
• Experience preparing management accounts and general bookkeeping.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Xero (or similar cloud-based accounting software).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proactive approach to work and a desire to learn/improve.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and year-end management accounts for eight group entities.
• Data analysis and the preparation of detailed accrued/deferred income and prepayments/accruals workings.
• Preparing and posting journal entries in Xero.
• Reconciling balance sheet accounts.
• Identifying new fixed assets and maintaining the group’s fixed asset registers.
• Assist with the preparation of financial reports and presentations.
• Ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.
• Assist with payroll processing activities.
• Maintain financial records and working papers, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Monitor budgets and track variances across the business.
• Help drive financial analysis to inform key business decisions.
• Contribute to ad hoc finance projects and continuous process improvements.
• Any other ad hoc tasks to support the finance team.
