Job summary

AD Finance in Nottingham is seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to join the finance team. The role offers exposure to a broad range of accounting and financial reporting activities and a supportive, forward-thinking business environment.

Working closely with senior members of the finance team, you will gain exposure to a wide range of accounting and financial reporting activities while contributing to ongoing process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Assist with the preparation and maintenance of balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support month-end reporting processes and ensure financial information is accurate and timely.
• Process journals, accruals, prepayments, and other accounting adjustments as required.
• Assist with general ledger maintenance and transaction processing.
• Provide support with management reporting and ad hoc financial analysis.

Purchase Ledger & Supplier Accounting

• Support supplier statement reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies.
• Assist in maintaining accurate purchase ledger records.
• Process intercompany transactions and journals where required.
• Help ensure supplier accounts are managed effectively and outstanding issues are resolved promptly.

Banking & Cash Management

• Perform bank reconciliations across multiple accounts and entities.
• Process cashbook transactions and maintain accurate records.
• Support cash management and related accounting activities.
• Assist with balance sheet control account reconciliations.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Contribute to the enhancement of finance processes and controls.
• Support the implementation and development of finance systems and reporting tools.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy.
• Assist with system testing and process documentation where required.

Business Support

• Provide support across accounts payable and accounts receivable functions during peak periods.
• Assist with finance projects and business initiatives as required.
• Provide holiday cover for colleagues within the finance department.
• Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the wider business.

Skills & Experience

Essential

• Previous experience working within a finance or accounting environment.
• Good understanding of accounting principles, including double-entry bookkeeping.
• Experience performing reconciliations and maintaining accurate financial records.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
• Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.
• Competent Microsoft Excel skills with confidence working with financial data.

Desirable

• AAT qualified or studying towards a recognised accounting qualification.
• Experience supporting management accounting or month-end processes.
• Exposure to ERP or integrated finance systems.
• Previous involvement in process improvement initiatives.
• Experience working within a multi-site or fast-paced commercial environment.
