Qualifications

  • 4+ years of maintenance engineering experience.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge.
  • Experience with electro‑mechanical systems, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Machinery maintenance and fault-finding expertise.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety regulations in maintenance.
  • Proactive and practical problem solving.
  • Full clean driving licence with travel between two sites.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong working knowledge of all site equipment and machinery.

  • Diagnose faults and take ownership of problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  • Follow Health & Safety, quality and administrative procedures.

Salary: £30,000 per annum

Location: Andover

Full time and Permanent

Hours: Monday - Thursday 7am-4pm and Friday 7am-3pm

Benefits Package: 23 days holiday plus bank holidays. Company pension scheme (eligibility after a 3-month probationary period).

I have been requested by our Client, a well‑established specialist manufacturer supplying protective equipment into the Military, Police, and Security sectors, to recruit an Assistant Maintenance Engineer to join their team and play an important role in keeping a wide range of machinery and equipment operating safely and efficiently.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong mechanical and electrical background who enjoys problem‑solving, preventative maintenance and working across a varied range of equipment.

The Role

As an Assistant Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the maintenance and efficient operation of a diverse range of machinery and systems, including steam boiler heating systems and hydraulic presses.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing a strong working knowledge of all site equipment and machinery.
  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Diagnosing faults and taking ownership of problem‑solving and root cause analysis.
  • Working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Prioritising and managing your workload to meet operational requirements.
  • Supporting preventative maintenance activities to minimise downtime.
  • Ensuring all maintenance work is completed safely and to a high standard.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A minimum of 4 years' experience in a maintenance engineering role.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge.
  • Experience working with electro‑mechanical systems, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Good experience of machinery maintenance and fault finding.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A good understanding of Health & Safety regulations within a maintenance environment.
  • A proactive and practical approach to problem‑solving.
  • A full, clean driving licence, as occasional travel between two sites will be required.
Qualifications
  • City & Guilds qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship is desirable.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety within a maintenance environment.
