Job summary

Sir John Nelthorpe School requires an inspirational Assistant Headteacher to lead Teaching & Learning with a core subject specialism, starting October 2026. The role combines strategic school-wide leadership with direct teaching responsibility for lower-ability groups in English and Mathematics at Key Stage 3.

You will drive pedagogical excellence, design targeted interventions, and mentor colleagues to secure robust progress. A DBS check will be required upon appointment.

Qualifications

• Experience leading teaching and learning with a proven track record of improving outcomes.
• Strong focus on English and Mathematics progress for lower-ability pupils.
• Ability to mentor, coach, and develop staff across faculties.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of teaching and learning policies and practice across the school.
• Take direct teaching responsibility for lowest-ability pupils within English and Mathematics at key stage 3.
• Lead high-impact professional development, mentoring and instructional coaching for staff.
• Collaborate with Heads of Faculty to adapt curriculum and track pupil data to close attainment gaps.
