Job summary

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Assistant Headteacher – Inclusion for a large primary school in Sandwell. You will lead SEND strategy, work with an extensive support network and drive inclusion across the school.

The role is non-class-based, with time for strategic development, staff coaching and system-wide improvements. You will shape provision for pupils with complex needs and collaborate with Educational Psychology and health services.

Qualifications

• Hold Qualified Teacher Status and be eligible to teach in a mainstream primary setting.
• Demonstrate successful experience leading SEND provision within a busy school.
• Understand the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP processes and graduated approach.
• Show strong knowledge of high-quality adaptive teaching for diverse learners.
• Be able to analyse data, identify improvements and implement change.
• Communicate confidently with staff, parents, governors and external professionals.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for SEND and inclusion across EYFS to Year 6.
• Maintain oversight of SEND profiles, priorities and statutory responsibilities.
• Lead identification, assessment and review processes for EHCPs.
• Coordinate provision mapping and deployment of SEND resources.
• Coach and develop teachers and support staff to implement high-quality provision.
• Engage with governors, external professionals and Local Authority services.
• Shape whole-school inclusion strategies and respond to evolving SEND landscape.
