The Assistant Headteacher will have strategic ownership of Safeguarding and the schools SEND provision, supporting the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher in leading the school.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status is required.
  • Honours degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience at middle leadership with impact.
  • Experience coaching/mentoring colleagues to improve performance.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding strategies.
  • Knowledge of pupil behaviour management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Strong self-awareness and adaptability.
  • Understanding of self-evaluation and strategic improvement planning.

Responsibilities

The Job

The Assistant Headteacher will have strategic ownership of Safeguarding and the schools SEND provision. In doing so the Assistant Headteacher will support the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher in:

  1. Communicating the school’s vision compellingly and supporting the Headteacher’s strategic leadership
  2. The day-to-day management of the school
  3. Formulating the aims and objectives of the school
  4. Establishing policies for achieving these aims and objectives
  5. Managing staff and resources to that end
  6. Monitoring progress towards the achievement of the school’s aims and objectives

The Assistant Headteacher will also have a timetabled teaching commitment, which will include teaching Science to Key Stage 4. They will comply with the Teachers’ Standards and modelling best practice for others. They may also be required to undertake any of the duties delegated by the Headteacher.

  6. Knowledge of strategies to manage and improve pupil behaviour
  7. Excellent interpersonal & presentation skills across the spectrum of stake holders
  8. A high level of self-awareness – knows strengths and weaknesses and can relate to difficult personality types
  9. Can demonstrate understanding of how effective self-evaluation and strategic improvement planning can increase effectiveness and raise student achievement
