Job summary

Pleckgate High School in Blackburn is seeking an Assistant Head of Mathematics on a full-time, permanent contract. You will lead development of the maths curriculum, coordinate assessments and support data-informed intervention for pupils.

You will mentor teachers, oversee QA of teaching, and drive improvements to attainment. The role requires QTS and evidence of outstanding GCSE results, plus a commitment to enrichment and professional development.

Qualifications

• QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
• Evidence of outstanding GCSE maths results and additional maths qualifications.
• Outstanding teaching practice and behaviour management.
• Knowledge of effective maths teaching strategies and how pupils learn.
• Commitment to extracurricular and enrichment provision.
• Experience observing lessons, coaching colleagues and improving pupil achievement.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development and review of the maths curriculum and update documentation as necessary.
• Assist in the development, design and review of maths assessments, leading moderation and standardisation at KS3 and KS4.
• Support in managing pupil data to identify underperformance and coordinate interventions.
• Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning in mathematics, including QA and feedback.
• Lead the professional development of maths teachers, including supporting ECTs.
• Share responsibility for maintaining high teaching standards across all classes and pupils.
• Contribute to the department's improvement plan and self-evaluation.
