Job summary

Pleckgate High School in Blackburn is seeking an Assistant Head of Mathematics on a full-time, permanent basis from January. The appointment includes a TLR 2C for department leadership and a welcome bonus of £2,000.

The successful candidate will oversee curriculum development, assessments, data-driven interventions and QA of teaching, while supporting ECTs and staff development across the maths department. The school emphasises high standards and continuous improvement for all pupils.

Qualifications

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Evidence of outstanding GCSE Mathematics results at foundation and higher levels.
  • Demonstrate outstanding teaching and excellent behaviour management.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies in mathematics.
  • Commitment to extracurricular and enrichment provision.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring colleagues.
  • Experience of improvement planning and raising pupil achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development and review of the maths curriculum and documentation.
  • Lead moderation and standardisation of maths assessments at KS3/KS4.
  • Support in managing pupil data and coordinate intervention measures.
  • Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning in mathematics (QA).
  • Support ECTs and less experienced staff in the department.
  • Maintain high teaching standards across all classes and pupils.
  • Contribute to the department improvement plan and self-evaluation.

Job description

Pleckgate High School seek to appoint an Assistant Head of Mathematics on a full time and permanent contract from January. The successful candidate will receive a TLR 2C for Assistant Head of Department responsibilities and a welcome bonus of £2,000.

What does this job do?
  • Assist in the development and review of the maths curriculum and update all curriculum thinking documentation as necessary.
  • Assist in the development, design and review of all assessments in mathematics, leading moderation and standardisation at KS3 and KS4.
  • Support in the management and progress of all pupil data, using this to identify areas of underperformance and co-ordinate appropriate and effective intervention measures.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning in mathematics, including leading QA and sharing feedback with the department and staff.
  • Take an active role in the professional development of teachers in the mathematics department including supporting ECT's and less experienced members of the team.
  • Share responsibility for maintaining high standards of teaching and learning across all classes and for all pupils.
  • Contribute to the department's improvement plan and self-evaluation with an emphasis on improving attainment and progress of pupils.
What are the job requirements?
  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree and be able to show evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Be able to show evidence of outstanding results for GCSE mathematics groups at foundation and higher level and preferably other mathematical qualifications (eg GCSE statistics, Level 2 further mathematics)
  • Demonstrate outstanding teaching practice and excellent behaviour management.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies and how children learn mathematics.
  • Have a keen interest in subject specific pedagogy, reading and research which is evidenced in teaching practice.
  • Evidence of commitment to extracurricular and enrichment provision.
  • Have experience of observing lessons, coaching and mentoring colleagues, having a positive impact on their development.
  • Have experience of improvement planning and of implementing a range of strategies to raise pupil achievement, with evidence of success.
