Job summary

Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere is seeking an Assistant Greenkeeper to help maintain pristine turf and world‑class playing surfaces. You will work on mowing, aeration, fertilisation, pest control, and set up course elements, while adhering to health and safety standards.

You will operate turf machinery, collaborate with the team, and support renovations to keep the course at Fairmont’s high standards. A passion for golf and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in greenkeeping, sports turf, or grounds maintenance.
• Knowledge of turf care: mowing, aeration, irrigation, nutrition.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and follow health & safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Maintain turf health through mowing, aerating, fertilising, and pest control.
• Set up and maintain course elements including bunkers, hazards, and tee markers.
• Operate and maintain greenkeeping equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations across all work areas.
• Communicate effectively with team members and golf course users.
• Apply golf rules and etiquette in course maintenance activities.
• Support renovations and ornamental area maintenance as required.
• Monitor and report on course conditions and operational issues.
• Attend training sessions and meetings to enhance skills.

Your Purpose Will Be

To support the presentation, conditioning, and maintenance of the championship golf course at Fairmont Cheshire The Mere. The Assistant Greenkeeper plays a vital role in delivering immaculate playing surfaces, exceptional course aesthetics, and a consistently world‑class golfing experience. Through technical skill, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence, this role ensures the course reflects the prestige and standards of the Fairmont brand.

Job Description

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf Maintenance (or working towards) preferred
• PA1, PA2, PA6 spraying certificates desirable
• Minimum 2 years of experience in greenkeeping, sports turf, or grounds maintenance
• Experience operating turf machinery including mowers, tractors, and implements
• Knowledge of turf care, including mowing, aeration, irrigation, and nutrition
• Understanding of UK Health & Safety regulations, including safe machinery use and COSHH
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Strong communication skills and a positive, team‑focused attitude
• A passion for golf course presentation and delivering exceptional playing conditions
