Job summary

Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere in Knutsford, UK is seeking an Assistant Greenkeeper to help maintain the championship golf course to the resort’s renowned standards. You will contribute to turf health and overall course presentation.

You will operate and maintain greenkeeping equipment safely and support renovation projects while delivering an immaculate playing surface for guests. This role requires a minimum of 2 years’ greenkeeping experience (NVQ2 preferred) and the ability to work outdoors in

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 preferred or working towards.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in greenkeeping or related fields.
• Experience operating turf machinery and knowledge of turf care.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain turf health through mowing, aerating, fertilising, and pest control
• Set up and maintain course elements including bunkers, hazards, and tee markers
• Operate and maintain greenkeeping equipment safely
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations across all work areas
• Communicate effectively with team members, management, and golf course users
• Apply golf rules and etiquette in course maintenance activities
• Support renovation projects and ornamental area maintenance as required
• Monitor and report on course conditions and operational issues
• Attend training sessions and meetings to enhance skills and knowledge

Your purpose will be:

To support the presentation, conditioning, and maintenance of the championship golf course at Fairmont Cheshire The Mere. The Assistant Greenkeeper plays a vital role in delivering immaculate playing surfaces, exceptional course aesthetics, and a consistently world‑class golfing experience. Through technical skill, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence, this role ensures the course reflects the prestige and standards of the Fairmont brand.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf Maintenance (or working towards) preferred
• PA1, PA2, PA6 spraying certificates desirable
• Minimum 2years of experience in greenkeeping, sports turf, or grounds maintenance
• Experience operating turf machinery including mowers, tractors, and implements
• Knowledge of turf care, including mowing, aeration, irrigation, and nutrition
• Understanding of UK Health & Safety regulations, including safe machinery use and COSHH
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Strong communication skills and a positive, team‑focused attitude
• A passion for golf course presentation and delivering exceptional playing conditions
