Job summary

The Canteen on Portobello Road is seeking an ambitious Assistant General Manager to lead daily restaurant operations, develop a high‑performing team and ensure guest satisfaction. You will partner with the General Manager to uphold quality, hospitality and safety standards in a fast‑paced, high‑volume Italian setting.

Ideal candidates will have AGM or restaurant leadership experience, a background in fine dining, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as AGM, Restaurant Manager or similar.
• Experience in fine dining or high end restaurants preferred.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make decisions under pressure.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily restaurant operations, ensuring seamless service and efficiency.
• Recruit, train, and inspire a high-performing team to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
• Maintain the highest standards of quality, hospitality, and health and safety compliance.
• Control budgets, manage costs, and pursue revenue targets.
• Act as a visible leader, building relationships with guests and managing feedback.
• Collaborate with management to implement ideas that enhance guest experience and drive growth.
