Benjamin Edwards in Lincoln is seeking an Assistant Financial Accountant to join our busy finance team. This office-based role offers exposure to monthly management accounts, statutory reporting, budgeting and cash flow, with close collaboration to the Financial Controller.

You will support month‑end close, balance sheet reconciliations, year-end audit preparation and forecasting models, and study towards a professional accounting qualification.

Responsibilities

Assistant Financial Accountant

Location: Lincoln (office based)

Salary: £32,000 per annum + bonus

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (half day finish on a Friday)

Benjamin Edwards are recruiting for an Assistant Financial Accountant to join an established and successful business based in Lincoln.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to continue developing their accounting career within a busy finance team. Working closely with the Financial Controller, you will gain broad exposure across management accounts, statutory reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow, alongside involvement in wider finance projects and systems improvements.

The role would suit someone who is either studying towards a professional accounting qualification or looking to progress their experience within a Financial Accountant/Management Accountant environment.

The role

You will support the Financial Controller and wider finance team with:

• Preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring accurate and timely reporting
• Completing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations
• Supporting the preparation of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting
• Investigating and explaining variances against budget and prior year
• Supporting year-end close and preparation of statutory accounts
• Preparing information and supporting schedules for the year-end audit
• Liaising with external auditors
• Assisting with annual budgets and reforecasts
• Supporting senior stakeholders with overhead budgets and challenging costs where appropriate
• Maintaining and developing budgeting and forecasting models
• Reviewing daily cash flow forecasts
• Supporting the purchase and sales ledger teams with queries
• Getting involved in wider finance projects, including systems and ERP improvements
• Providing additional support to the Financial Controller and wider finance team as required

The ideal candidate

You will have strong numerical and analytical skills with previous experience gained within a finance or accounting environment. You will be confident using Excel, comfortable working to deadlines and able to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Ideally, you will be studying towards or looking to progress through a professional accounting qualification and keen to develop your experience across both management and financial accounting.

You will be a proactive, collaborative individual with good communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues and stakeholders across the wider business.

The opportunity

This is a varied role offering exposure to the full accounting cycle rather than focusing on one narrow area of finance. You will work closely with an experienced Financial Controller, develop your month-end and year-end experience and have the opportunity to contribute to improvements within the finance function.
