Job summary

Caerphilly County Borough Council is seeking an Assistant Engineer to help shape resilient and sustainable infrastructure in the Caerphilly area. You will support the SuDS Approval Body and Highway Development Control team, delivering high-quality development with internal teams and developers.

The role requires experience in Highways, Drainage, SuDS or NFM, a Level 4 Welsh qualification, and a UK driving licence to travel for site visits and meetings across the borough.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in the construction, operation or maintenance of Highways, Drainage, SuDS or NFM.
• Full UK Category B driving licence and use of a motor vehicle insured for business/work purposes to travel around the borough for meetings and site visits.

Responsibilities

• Support SuDS Approval Body and Highway Development Control team with day‑to‑day activities.
• Provide expert technical guidance to developers and internal teams to deliver high‑quality developments in the Caerphilly area.

Job description

Join Caerphilly County Borough Council as an Assistant Engineer and play a vital role in shaping resilient and sustainable infrastructure. You'll help with the day-to-day of the SuDS Approval Body and Highway Development Control team, provide expert technical guidance, and work closely with developers and internal teams to support delivery of high-quality development in the Caerphilly area. We are looking for a motivated team player who is passionate about sustainable infrastructure wanting an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact. The successful candidate will have prior experience of the construction, operation and maintenance of Highways, Drainage, SuDS or NFM. For the role, we ask that you have:

• A relevant Level 4 qualification on the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales. For example, HNC in Engineering in related subject
• Experience of working in the construction, operation or maintenance of Highways, Drainage, SuDS or NFM.
• Full UK Category B (cars) driving licence and the use of a motor vehicle insured for business / work purposes to travel throughout the borough to attend meetings and undertake site visits.
