Job summary

Amey is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join the Cardiff Highways & Transportation team on a permanent basis. The role offers hybrid and flexible working patterns, with a 40-hour week and multiple UK offices and Ireland.

You will lead highway design schemes, mentor junior staff, and work closely with National Highways and clients across Wales. The position supports professional development towards Incorporated or Chartered status, with a Chartership bonus and a commitment to staff development

Qualifications

  • Experience in highways civil engineering projects and design.
  • Knowledge of design processes and standards for civil engineering.
  • Ability to produce or oversee technically sound highway engineering solutions.
  • Experience with health, safety and welfare regulations (CDM).
  • Progress towards Incorporated or Chartered status or equivalent.
  • Commitment to action plans and professional review timelines.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Lead on the delivery of highway drainage scheme design.
  • Support the Design Team Leader on design duties.
  • Conduct surveys and inspections.
  • Prepare feasibility and technical reports.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Civil Engineer to join our Consulting Highways & Transportation Team. With office space in Cardiff we invite applications from across Wales.

The Cardiff Highways team has a healthy pipeline of high-profile and diverse project work on the South East Wales Technical and Professional Services Framework (SEWTAPS), South West and Mid Wales Regional Civil Engineering Services Framework (SWMWRCES), South Wales Trunk Road Agency (SWTRA) and North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency, all with exciting roles from Project Manager through to Design Manager all with exposure to local Clients within Wales.

What you will be doing

Our Senior Engineers play an important part within the Highways and Designated Funds Design team and alongside our client, National Highways. As a Senior Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of highways drainage schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead on the delivery of scheme design, as well as providing support to the Design Team Leader on various design duties including:
  • Surveys/Inspections
  • Feasibility and other technical reports
  • Planning, programming and cost estimation
  • Design production
  • Production of design schedules
  • Reviewing and amending design drawings
  • Production of Specifications
  • Supporting development of Graduate Engineers and Technicians
  • Work to programme to deliver specified designs on time
  • Drive effective health and safety practices within your team
  • Liaise with the Client and our Community partners to ensure solutions that are suitable for buildability and maintainability
  • Prepare technical reports (e.g. Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports)
We want to hear from you if you have:
  • Developedexperience and expertise within Highways/Civil engineering field, probably gained in an Engineerroleor equivalent
  • Comprehensive knowledge of design processes and procedures relevant to the civil engineering discipline
  • An ability to produceor oversee the production of technically sound Highwaysengineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
  • Experience in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Successful completion of the initial professional development leading to either Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence and to the level defined by their education
  • A demonstrable commitment to their plan of actions and key dates leading to successful completion of either the professional review or end point assessment, resulting in the award of Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning
