Job summary

Telford & Wrekin Council is seeking an Assistant Educational Psychologist to join the Educational Psychology Service for a 12-month fixed-term contract, 37 hours per week. You will work under supervision to support traded and statutory work in schools through observation, information gathering, and intervention strategies, contributing to the Experts at Hand model and wellbeing initiatives.

Qualifications

• Degree in Psychology (or equivalent) recognised by the British Psychological Society providing Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC).
• Experience working with children and young people to promote wellbeing and progress.
• Ability to draw links between psychological theory and practice with families and schools.
• Willingness to work collaboratively with children, families, schools and professionals.
• Commitment to inclusive, anti-racist and culturally responsive practice.
• Prior experience as Assistant Educational Psychologist would be welcomed.

Responsibilities

• Support consultation-based work with schools, families and partner agencies through activities such as observation, information gathering and intervention support.
• Deliver traded and statutory work under supervision, contributing to project work and research.
• Help develop the Experts at Hand offer, including workforce development and innovations to strengthen inclusion and wellbeing.
• Assist Educational Psychologists in observation, assessment and intervention delivery and in multi-agency collaboration.
• Support Local Authority project work and contribute to Wellbeing Charter Mark activities.

An opportunity has arisen to join Telford & Wrekin Educational Psychology Service at a particularly exciting stage in our development. Through our innovative Experts at Hand model, Educational Psychology is increasingly positioned at the heart of support for children, young people, families, schools and communities across the borough.

Successful candidates will join a creative, highly skilled and supportive team that is valued by education settings, families and strategic partners. Working under the clinical supervision and line management of a qualified EP, you will be supporting our team of Educational Psychologists in delivering traded and statutory work to schools through a range of activities such as observation, consultation and implementation of intervention strategies.

Alongside supporting traded and statutory work, you will contribute to the ongoing development of our Experts at Hand offer, helping Educational Psychologists deliver accessible consultation, early intervention, project work, workforce development and innovative approaches that strengthen inclusion and wellbeing across schools and communities.

Working under the supervision of qualified Educational Psychologists, you will support consultation-based work with schools, families and partner agencies through activities such as observation, information gathering, intervention support, research and project work. You will also support the Educational Psychology Service with delivery on a range of Local Authority project work our psychologists are involved in, including research and development activity in a wide range of areas. This sits alongside supporting delivery of our Wellbeing Charter Mark. Duties will be varied, and fully supervised and supported.

You will be required to have a degree (or a conversion course) in psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society which provides Graduate Basis for Chartered (GBC) membership. You will need to demonstrate relevant experience working with children and young people to promote wellbeing and progress and be able to demonstrate an understanding of linking psychological theory and approaches to working with children and their families. You will demonstrate an understanding of linking psychological theory and approaches to working with children and their families, supporting early development, conducting observations, and working collaboratively with parents, carers and professionals. Experience in approaches to early communication, emotional literacy and/or play based intervention would be considered desirable. Prior experience as an Assistant Educational Psychologist would be welcomed and valued.
