Job description

We are seeking a law graduate, with some experience in a Legal or publishing environment to join the Practical Law team in the UK.

Practical Law is a leading online know-how service providing rigorous, peer-reviewed resources, such as practice notes, current awareness and standard documents to help legal professionals work smarter and advise with confidence. Practical Law is part of Thomson Reuters, one of the world’s most trusted providers of answers across law, tax, compliance, government and media.

About the role

As an Assistant Editor in the Practical Law Global team, you will use your developing legal knowledge and experience to assist your colleagues devise, provide and maintain a wide range of Practical Law content. Working in a supportive global team of highly experienced colleagues, you will deal with a breadth of interesting legal and editorial work including:

  • Creating new and maintaining existing materials spanning a variety of formats
  • Reviewing and editing content written internally and externally
  • Liaising with contributors in relation to their content
  • Providing administrative and publishing support, ensuring content is produced in compliance with technical and editorial requirements, and maintaining internal database

In addition to this, an Assistant Editor will assist:

  • The wider Thomson Reuters editorial teams, liaising with sales, marketing, product management, technology and segment functions where necessary

About You:

Mandatory:
  • Undergraduate Law Degree (2:1 or above), or undergraduate degree in a subject other than Law (2:1 or above) and Postgraduate Diploma in Law.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience of working to deadlines and ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge or experience in international or cross border legal practice or legal publishing experience including editing content written by contributors who do not have English as a first language.
  • A demonstrable interest and ability in legal writing and presenting complex information in clear and novel (for example visual or interactive) ways.
  • Knowledge/interest or experience of using AI and LLM models, including prompting techniques.
