Job summary

Powys County Council is seeking an Assistant Ecologist to support the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent. The role involves assisting with policy implementation, providing ecological advice, and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation across project delivery and maintenance.

You will operate from one of the office locations (Aberystwyth, Newtown, Llandrindod) and contribute to biodiversity enhancement, monitoring, and licensing processes in collaboration with NMWTRA and NRW where

Qualifications

• Assist Climate Change and Environmental Team with Welsh Government policy and environmental legislation.
• Provide professional ecological advice and support on assessment, impact and mitigation of operations on ecology and biodiversity.
• Review internal/external documents, surveys and reporting; attend meetings and supervise sites.

Responsibilities

• Manage the soft estate inventory and identify ecological assets in location and condition.
• Propose, design and manage a programme of ecological enhancement projects from reactive maintenance.
• Assist with NRW licences and discharge conditions including surveys, monitoring and reporting.
• Collaborate with the Environment team to manage projects related to ecological enhancement and mitigation.
