Job description

Assistant Ecologist - Derby

Salary: GBP25,000 - GBP30,000 (DOE)

We are working with a respected, independent environmental consultancy near Derby that is continuing to grow steadily. They are now seeking an Assistant Ecologist, ideally with some early consultancy experience, who is ready to take the next step in their ecological career.

You will join a friendly, multidisciplinary team of around 40-50 professionals, including ecologists, arboriculturists, archaeologists, landscape architects, and construction experts. The environment is supportive, where quality work is valued over ticking boxes, and your input will be heard and appreciated.

What You'll Be Doing

1. Assisting with ecological surveys and site assessments
2. Writing technical reports (PEAs, PRAs, BNG assessments, UKHab surveys, etc.)
3. Supporting senior ecologists and contributing to project planning and delivery
4. Visiting sites, liaising with clients, and helping deliver meaningful ecological outcomes

What We're Looking For

• A relevant degree (e.g., Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation)
• Some experience in ecological consultancy or fieldwork
• A full, clean UK driving licence

Bonus Skills (Not Essential)

• Bird ID and/or ornithological survey experience
• One or more protected species survey licences
