As a senior leader in our 120-strong Finance Directorate, you’ll report to and support the Director of Finance directly and represent Queen’s on high-level internal and external committees. You will lead several critical areas as outlined below:

  • Financial and Statutory Reporting & Compliance (including risk and audit)
  • Procurement
  • Taxation
  • Pensions
  • Treasury and Capital

About the person

You will be a strategic thinker and a strong, empathetic leader, with the gravitas to forge strong professional relationships across colleagues. You will be dynamic, with the ability to think outside the box, providing creative solutions to complex challenges.

Essential criteria include:

  • Degree-level education or equivalent, plus a recognised professional accountancy qualification (e.g., CAI, ACCA)
  • Extensive post-qualification experience in financial reporting, compliance, and audit at a senior level within a large or complex organisation (annual turnover >£100m, 500+ employees) or a large professional services firm
  • Proven experience advising on internal controls, risk management, and regulatory compliance
  • Experience working closely with tax and professional advisors on complex issues
  • Ability to draft and review papers/presentations and present to senior stakeholders
  • Successful leadership of teams, including mentorship and development of team members
  • Experience working at pace with multidisciplinary teams under tight deadlines
  • High professional credibility, with strong interpersonal, networking, advocacy, and strategic influencing skills
  • Effective communication skills at all levels, with the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders
  • An analytical mindset with risk management skills, balanced with creative problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrable commitment to Queen’s University Belfast’s mission and values
